HOUSTON (Jan. 23, 2019) – Toyota’s all-new 2019 Corolla Hatchback was voted this year’s Texas Car of the Year by the Texas Motor Press Association (TxMPA). Toyota was recognized and presented with a trophy on January 23 at the Houston Auto Show.
The TxMPA Vehicle of the Year jurors spent thousands of hours test-driving vehicles nominated in each category before casting their votes and selecting a winner. Jurors consisted of 15 distinguished members of the automotive press who were determined to choose a car that represents the best of Texas.
“The early response to the Corolla Hatchback has been fantastic since its launch last fall,” said Sam De La Garza, senior manager of Vehicle marketing at Toyota Motor North America. “This award by the Texas Motor Press Guild is a great compliment to the Hatch’s popularity with our customers. Both have recognized its versatility, technology, style and fun-to-drive spirit.”
With its high-function and dynamic design, the 2019 Corolla Hatchback delivers on style, safety and performance. Hosting the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, it offers more power, driving dynamics and fuel efficiency than ever before. The Corolla Hatchback is compatible with the latest technology including Entune 3.0 with Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa Connectivity and was the first North American application of Standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.0.
“The new 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is a step in the right direction for the world’s best-selling car,” said Mike Herzing, president of Texas Motor Press Association. “It’s a hot hatch that’s stable on the road and fuel efficient, two things that are very important for Texas’s commuters. The Corolla Hatchback is also one of the few remaining cars that comes standard with a manual transmission.”
